Environment

At Firstflex we work closely with our supply partners and align to recognised industry standards to support responsible sourcing, compliance, and sustainability outcomes.
Our focus is on independent certification, proven compliance, and practical initiatives that reduce environmental impact across our business and supply chain.
Firstflex is committed to a sustainable business strategy. We encourage our team to bring initiatives forward and contribute to our green light thinking approach to find ways on how we can be more environmentally friendly, reduce our carbon footprint and commit to a sustainable future.
Best Environmental Practice (BEP 2.0)
All PVC cables supplied by Firstflex are covered by Best Environmental Practice (BEP) 2.0 certification, a third-party audited programme administered by the Vinyl Council of Australia.
BEP 2.0 is an industry-recognised framework that supports improved environmental performance across the PVC supply chain, including:
- Responsible raw material sourcing
- Environmental management systems
- Waste reduction and recycling practices
- Compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations
Firstflex works with suppliers who participate in the BEP programme and maintain independent certification to BEP 2.0 standards.

Green Star Alignment
BEP-certified PVC products are recognised by the New Zealand Green Building Council as supporting Green Star project requirements.
By supplying BEP-certified cables, Firstflex supports customers working on commercial and infrastructure projects where environmental compliance and sustainability considerations are required

Low Smoke Halogen Free (LSHF) Products
Firstflex offers a range of LSHF cable solutions designed to reduce toxic smoke and corrosive gas emissions in the event of a fire.
LSHF products are commonly specified in environments where occupant safety, asset protection, and environmental impact are key considerations, including commercial buildings, data centres, and public infrastructure.

Reducing Waste to Landfill
As part of our environmental focus, Firstflex supports a drum recycling initiative aimed at reducing waste and encouraging reuse within the cable supply chain.
Returned cable drums are reused or recycled wherever possible, helping reduce landfill and minimise the environmental footprint of cable installations.
Additionally Firstflex has implemented a number of initiatives which has resulted in us reducing our general waste by half at our head office facility and ensuring all recycling is managed correctly and effectively. We have revised our packaging so it can be easily recycled or re-used by our customers.

Our Facility
Our purpose-built Drury facility incorporates environmental considerations into its design and operation, supporting efficient logistics, reduced waste, and responsible day-to-day operations.
Design features have been incorporated to reduce our environmental impacts. A 60kWp 128 solar panel PV system was installed. The amount of clean energy we generate for this system will have environmental equivalents to planting 402 adult trees every year and reducing our carbon emissions by 8900kg a year. The facility has three 25,000L underground tanks to harvest the roof rainwater for toilets and outdoor taps. Warehouse lighting is sensor activated. Each aisle has five LED high bay lights activated by movement with option to adjust brightness and sensitivity based on the natural ambient light.
The building is fitted with Sunergy Low-E coated double-glazed glass which blocks out the sun’s direct energy while maintaining a high level of natural daylight and also reduces noise. The same coating helps to reflect heat back into the building on cold days helping control the temperature and save power.
